Default Looking at an 2000 S40 to purchase

Im going to look at this thing today and what attracted me was the $2500 price. Im sure thats about KBB for this vehicle but more importantly what should I look for? What known problems do these vehicles have?

Its got 147k mi. and im hoping everything works, no leaks, and the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner have been replace.

This is going to either be my wifes commuter or my daughters first car.

I know Audi. BMW, Honda, GM but know absolutely nothing about Volvo yet.

Thanks in advance!

Default Update

So I went and took a look at it.

Vibrates and is rough at idle. Once you get moving the vibration goes away about 90%. Tranny or motor mount?

Normal take of in "D" is really slow and I thought it was turbo lag but starting from "L" was perfectly fine. After I got back I see a "W" button on center console. Is this "Winter mode"? Maybe the cause for the lag.

Timing belt and WP have not been changed.

Body n paint is really good interior is good but drivers seat is worn badly.

Heater works AC does not blow cold.

Some other electrical wear n tear items that are easy to deal with.

So... Worth $2500 or am I looking at a money pit?

W is winter mode, starts off slow so the tires do not slip. I have an 01 S40 and have always thought it idles a little rough and I have had it for 10 years 210,000 miles and have had no big issues other then replacing the thermostat every year. I would pay that if I felt everything was sound

Run away. The car has not seen any TLC. The timing belt should have been replaced already. It needs allot of what should be normal maintenance.
