May be buying an S40
My wife and I are looking for a Volvo S40 right now - and we may have found one locally. Since I know nothing about these cars, I'm asking here since I always get good advice on my 850.
The good: with the exception of some minor rust on the front grille and a couple tiny dents, the body is in great shape overall. The interior is in great shape - no rips or tears in the leather, no cracking on the dash, etc. The exterior trim is faded, but it was on my 850 as well when i bought it, and painting it with bumper black fixed that.
The bad: 145,000 miles on it, and the windshield is cracked. Also, they are asking $3000 for it.
I'd definitely want to replace the windshield on it and fix the rust right away.
Can anyone give me an idea what a good price would be on this car?
Here are some pics

I just recently bought an s40 for $2,200, it's pretty good, but I replaced the spark plugs, breaks, battery and air filter. So far the only problem left is the MAF, I didn't realize when I bought the car, but drive the car around for at least 15 minutes with the AC on and then park the car.
Park it and leave the car on to see if the engine makes any weird noises. I probably wouldn't have bought mine if I did this. The RPM goes up and down and something is wrong with the MAF. Think it's gonna cost between $150-200 to fix.
Feel free to buy mine, it's a nice car, but I should have bought a cheaper one cause I'm broke now.
Good luck with it if you get it. $3,000 with a cracked winshield, not sure on that, but if the engine is good I would get it, just talk them down like 200 if you can.

Pictures look decent. What year is the car (2000-2003)? At 145K you should have new struts put in it if they haven't been done. Also the timing belt should of been done at 105K. Scan the codes on the OBD-II to make sure nothing is wrong with the emissions. Drive the car at 55-60MPH range to see how it handles and check for shakes. Okay so the hood needs to be repainted.
