My 1st S40... just bought a 2001
Good job.
I've been thinking about why my older Toyotas require so much less maintenance than other cars I own like Volvo and VW and I think it boils down to a philosophy of simple design. If the design feature is absent you won't need to maintain it.
For example, my V40 has a bit of a start-up rattle and I think the reason is probably the oil pan o-rings, another unnecessarily complicated design feature.
So I'm thinking about doing my turbo oil return pipe seals soon and that project is now expanding to include oil pan o-rings, engine mounts and maybe a drive axle.

During the turbo drain tube thing, you have to (or should) remove 2 mounts. Both of mine were slightly broken, so I got the rear one from AutoZone and front from the JY. It will probably go soon but it was better than mine and AZ only had the one and I was at the Yard anyway. PO had bent the sway brace.
On my continued oil leak, I started a new thread. But had to remove the air box, battery, and other stuff on that side to find that the cam position sensor cover was were the massive oil leak is coming from.
Anyway, the motor mount, under the air box is really bad. Wish I had one of those. Next order, I guess.
