Please help. I was on a road trip with my dad on our way back toDenver from san Diego when I looked over at the.rpms while.my dad was driving.and saw they were at 3500 at 55. I immediately told.my.dad to pull over and while he was in the process I watched the temp gauge rise through the roof, car.made terrible noise, died,.looked behind and saw smoke.everywhere. we towed it.to a Volvo specialist, they poured a bottle of coolant into the reservoir, disappeared... checked the.dip stick and went straight into the motor within seconds. how in the hell could my head basket blow like that?! anyways my dad and I are.driving a rental car bqck to denver, and the.shop is going to call me Monday with final estimate. Said roughly 1200 to 1500. Idk what to do, go down and.tow.it.back or have them fix it? Any advice appreciated!!!

BTW I've changed oil every 3 and always.check my fluid! They were fine.before we left this morning

 

Your head gasket blew because probably one of the electic fans was not working, verify that. Prices are in that range because shops are at $60-$85 per hour labor.

I just got a rebuilt engine installed, $2000.00. Heard this ticking in the engine and the next day found oil under the car when I started the car the engine ceased. I found later that the root cause was same as yours. Good luck
