Need Help! P0015/ECM-61 VVT Issues...
2001 S-40 keeps throwing the VVT code despite changing out
both the sprocket and solenoid. Changed oil and used oil sludge cleaner
several times. 97K on the odo, haven't done the belt yet.
The place that did the sprocket and solenoid, want to change them out
again, for another $900
Anyone have any ideas on this one?
Thanks!

Can you give the exact code? There are a couple which may apply.
I'm wondering why you replaced the VVT gear? And in what sequence? Did you replace the solenoid and the code returned then replaced the VVT gear? or were both replaced at the same time?
On mine, after a slipped timing belt and extensive repair, I had to adjust the VVT gear a couple times to get to the proper spot. Just a few degrees off is a huge amount to a cam.
A DICE unit hooked to VIDA software can tell you the cam angle the computer is sensing versus angle commanded. This is kind of expensive to invest in for one repair though. I would not pay the repair shop another $900 on a guess though. A dealer, though costly, has the diagnostic equipment to tell you. My local dealer charges $70 just to hook the diagnostic equipment to my car.
