Default Non-spooling turbo...

Hi All,

Now, this problem has existed from the time I bought the car, but just curious what could be causing it...
I've already arranged to buy another turbo and will rebuild it prior to installation - but before I do all that :

I am throwing P0015 (I betcha it's the VVT solenoid) and P0299 (Turbo./supercharger underboost). I don't think the two are related, the turbo would keep spooling regardless of the VVT status.

I've had my arm behind the block and wiggled the arm - it works as I believe it should - it will pull out, and then return back to its original position once I let it go - basically mimicking the wastegate actuator motion, which I believe is positive-pressure induced, not vacuum.

I've not had the hoses off to see if the turbine itself is stuck, that's tomorrow's doing! But for the moment, any ideas?
I had hte OBD2 running in the car last night scanning intake manifold pressure, it is at 4.8PSI (Absolute) and will increase to 14.8 on full throttle.
It's not a boost gauge, so I have no idea if these values are good or bad!

The Turbo Control Valve is supposed to control boost. I have no idea how to test it though. I'm thinking it should throw a code for an internal electrical failure. A mechanical failure might not give a code.

And I'm not sure about your pressure numbers. Do you have a vacuum gauge you can hook to an intake port?

What it does, I believe is pulse-width-modulates the intake pressure towards the wastegate actuator, thus the more positive pressure in the intake manifold, the greater the pressure on the actuator arm, thus the wastegate opens...this will hold the boost at a prefixed level with respect to the duty cycle of the TCV.

Guys - Just like to close this one out...

Off came the heat-shield (Three 12mm bolts and some wiggling), followed by an exclaimation of delight (In Arabic, the DIY garage is Algerian) at the sight of my wastegate and acutuator arm fallen apart.

One cotter pin through the wastegate-pin later...and we're back on boost!
