Default Odd ECT Sensor Question

MY ECT sensor went bad. I found a replacement on E-Bay. When I received it, you could tell the sensor had been cleaned. I asked the guy I bought it from, and sure enough, he took a wire wheel to it. I would think this would cause it to send a bad signal. I know it would only take me ten minutes to throw it in and find out, but I know someone here will have the answer. Feedback anyone?

Did you buy it new or used?
If you bought it new I would send it back.

It was listed used. But, when I asked the seller, he said it had only been in the car two weeks and it worked.
