You will ALWAYS get a different answer with this question! It's such a subjective topic. Really, if you have a turbo car, you should be using synthetic but some folks use fossil oil. Personally, I used to use Castrol Synthec 5w30, but just switched to Lucas Synth 5w30. I believe Volvo recommends changing synth oil every 5k. Most of us, including one or two techs that are part of the forum will tell you change it every 3,500-4k as added insurance! Every dealer also uses different oils, they just stick with the same weight depending on the vehicle, so with that said, find an oil YOU like and the important part is to stick with the interval change! That will guarantee your car and seals to max longevity. Some of the Oils that are good are Castrol, Royal Purple, Lucas, Amsoil, Valvoline. Also I recommend using a OEM Volvo oil Filter since they have a check valve built in. Some of the aftermarket filters may not have....
