Oil Filter Location
So i have been searching around your forums and around the internet for some time now and i cannot seem to find another thread about this.
I perfer to change my motor oil myself. I just upgraded to a 2005 s40 from a 2001 s40. The oil filter was extremely easy to find on the 01, but for some reason i cannot find it on the 05. I feel like a noob. I have read that it is on top of the engine somewhere, but i think that is the UK version. And of course the manual is no help at all. can anyone help me and try to explain exactly where the oil filter is?
I know where the oil pan is, and the drain plus, and i already bought the new oil filter, i just need to replace the old one now.
Thanks

oil filter on 2005 S40
I just changed the oil in my 2005 S40 this past weekend. The filter is to the left of the air filter housing as you stand looking down at the engine from the front. Look for a plastic cap about 9 cm in circumference with a large hex nut pattern in the middle. I use my largest socket (26mm ??) to easily remove this cap to reveal the cartridge filter. Prior to removing the cap I remove the air intake ducting which is over the filter location.

VolvoTex,
I didn't think about the different engines. Mine is a 2.5 T5 and the oil filter is accessed from the top. I did a quick search and I would guess the 2.4 oil filter is accessed from the bottom in a recess next to the oil pan. Here's a link I referenced:

I heard it was under the shop vac looking hose and fixture in the lower left by the radiator. Did you find out where it is or are you still lost?
