Hi all I'm having trouble with what I believe is an oil leak from my s40 t5 2008. Recently replaced the pcv system after it started whistling. this makes me think that an oil seal was pushed out from pricepos crank case pressure. However, a shop I took it to told me that they think the CV boot is torn and causing the leak. They put uv dye in the engine oil to help diagnose but it's still not clear. No oil on the crank pulley, and when I open up the timing cover to look in with a uv light there is no reflection it obvious oil. Very dry in there. What am I missing? Don't want to remove the CV boot for 250 bucks when they look okay. I felt every inch of them and didn't see any grease.
The only place for oil to come out on the timing area is either camshaft or crankshaft seals. It is rare, but the oil pump can be leaking, but I've never seen that.
Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I was thinking too. Is it possible for oil to leak from the cam seals but go down the inside of the inner timing cover on the block rather than enter the timing cover area?
Yes because there is an air gap between the two. The oil will typically run down but the draft from the belt spinning will tend to create a bit of an oil trail in the belt area.
