I changed my air filter yesterday and saw that my old one was covered in oil. I then removed my new one and looked in my air box, and saw that there is oil all over the inside. What could be leading to this. Plus, what is a "purge valve"? My friends dad is a " mechanic" and said I need a new purge valve.

 

Is your PCV oil filter box oily as well? PCV systems on these cars are known to be problematic.

 

I am not sure. That is what I found online, but I'm not sure how to check it myself.

 

Diaphragms inside the oil filter PCV box are known to blow on these then you hear odd sounds. If you are not sure where the oil is coming from I would degrease the entire area the best you can and drive some hours or a day or so and inspect for the location of the leak. You may find it right away. Get some Simple Green or other can degreasers, scrub clean and hose off with water.
