Default Oil question 2001 s40 1.9t

Hi all,
I have been really testing the waters in which oil i like, however, cant truly settle on one. I have run royal purple, which I really liked, however, I am currently running Mobil 1 Synthetic because I needed a oil change and couldnt get the royal purple in time. I don't really like the performance of the Mobil 1, the car seemed to do better on royal purple. I have also heard really good things about Amsoil and I would like to know if anyone else runs it. I am thinking of getting Amsoil European formula due to the turbocharger performance they claim. AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W-30 Improved ESP Synthetic Motor Oil

or i could also run the regular amsoil synthetic as well
AMSOIL OE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

Has anyone run amsoil in this car? If so whats your opinions? Over priced or worth it? TIA

On Mobil 1 the engine does not run as smooth and has more of a ticking sound on startup that was not there on the royal purple. Mobil 1 also has a tendency to burn off over time, I personally think its way too thin. I am also considering Castrol Edge but would like to hear about the Amsoil as they have great lab results and seem to be geared more towards the performance factor rather than any old synthetic oil.

sounds like marketing hype to me. Considering the car was designed for and shipped with conventional oil, comparing test claims for performance brands is overkill IMHO. I don't think I could hear the different between two brands of fresh oil - maybe its possible for old oil vs new...

You have a turbo (oil cooker). Use a good quality synthetic for peace of mind and longevity. Mobil 1, Castrol synthetic, Royal Purple, Amsoil are all good, though some may be better, but you won't go wrong and usually isn't that much more expensive.

I became a believer in synthetic when I first used it in my lawn mower. Most mowers like mine don't have oil filters and I had some extra synthetic so I figured what the heck. My 1/2 acre usually took just over a tank of gas to do the entire lawn. After switching to synthetic (same weight) I finish in just under one tank consistently. There must be something good about it. The mower is now 12 years old and the B&S still runs great and starts on first pull even after sitting all winter. Self-propel tranny is shot but the engine is fine.
