PCV replacement
Hey guys I plan to do a PCV replacement cause there's oil all over the top of the engine and around the timing belt and pulleys areas. Just hoping replacing this stupid thing would help stop the oil leak. Where can I find the cheapest kit in Canada? Also I found a guide on youtube but it's not specific for S40 2003. Is there any guide that covers it? Thanks!
I'm not sure where's the leak come from I will find out soon. I'm just thinking the PCV might get clogged and build up pressure so the seal is failed. Would a VVT gear leak trigger the P0015 code?
Yes. The P0015 is a camshaft over retarded code. Having the oil leak out instead of move the VVT gear would definitely be possible. And given everything you describe, this is the classic VVT gear leaking. Mine soaked the timing belt and caused a belt slip which bent all 8 exhaust valves.
I still cant figure out where exactly is the leak. The belt seems to be dry and so is the gear on the outside. But oil is spashed everywhere in the belt cover, on top of the engine, and even all the way down to oil pan. How much would it cost to replace the vvt gear? And how long would it last?
The last time mine failed it cost about $150 for the gear and another $50 for the cam holder tool. That gear was itself a replacement for the OEM gear which started leaking oil from the failed o-ring. I'm guessing somewhere around 5 years old.
When my CVVT gear starting leaking oil from the failed o-ring I removed the top timing belt cover and started the engine. The leaking oil was slung out in plane with the gear. It went all the way up to the bottom of the hood and forward to the bumper and beyond. I don't recommend getting in line with the belt rotation if you try this. You will get hit with oil.

Maybe mine leak is not as bad as yours cause when the engine at idle I don't see any oil coming out. That's why I'm still unsure.
How much would labor cost for this job? I don't know if doing it myself gonna be any better.
