i have a 2001 s40 volvo and when I started it this mornig, the dashboard was not working (the clock, odometer, speedometer, trip odometer, fuel gauge, temp gauge) and it says "pin e ode" what does the mean???? is it a fuse or something seriouse? check engine light was on for several weeks but now it does not display.

 

This happened to me last month. Do you have another key? Try using it. It has something to do with the computer chip in your key.

 

these keys don't have computer chips. the problem is with the dash itself...it's probably going bad and will need to be replaced if the issue persists. you're looking at about $1000 for a new one.

had this same problem about 2 months ago...it resolved after a few starts and hasn't come back.

definitely not a "key" problem, and there is no pin code to enter.

 

All I can say is after searching on the internet for 3 hours, trying all sorts of other suggestions..... I called a Volvo mechanic and he said, "do you have another key?" I said "yes" and he said "try using that one" . I honestly thought he was blowing me off....but it worked and I haven't had the issue return. The reason I joined this forum is because I wanted to share my experience and perhaps save someone else some money. If anyone has this same problem....try your extra key...just see if it works.
