Default Power Seat Problem

The backrest on the driver side on my '03 S40 will not come forward, only go back. The other power controls work fine for the other operations, its just that the backrest will not go forwards, only back. Is it most likely the switch or motor? It is not used very often, so hopefully its not the motor. Does anyone have an idea of the cost to replace the defective part(s)? thanks

Most likely the switch.
Try playing with it some more. Sometimes the switches just get dirty.

Well, we tried blowing some air with an air compressor to dislodge any dirt, but it didn't work unfortunately. We did a little poking around, and it looks like the switch is soldered to a circuit board, along with the other power seat controls.

Tech, do you know if Volvo sells just the circuit board with the switches? I am a fairly capable solderer, so I can probably hook up the motor wires to the board myself.

They only sell it as an entire switch assembly.

Okay. Do you know if there is a manual override to adjust the seat? All the dealerships in my area are closed on the weekends.

Just add power to the motor.
