Default power seat problem

[:@]The drivers side powerseat moves forward/ backward on only one side track (left). the right side closest to the center console stays put. The motor of course is operating. Is this a drive cable problem? If so how to repair? Is Can this be a DIY job??

Yes the drive cable stretched out and no longer makes contact.

I heat the cable end up some and slide the plastic part in some then hit the switch to move the seat and it should seat. Let it cool then you should be fine for a while.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try this weekend. I believe it will be necessary to remove the seat. I see two bolts in the front which hold the seat assembly in place. But any rear bolts if any ar hidden. So can you advise me on the seat removal proceedure?
Thanks in advance.

I do it without removing the seat.

It is a pain there is 2 screws in the back if you can't see them it is a real pain to do.

I have the same Problem with the 94 3.8L Just bought. The seat moves up and down and the motor clicks when you try to move it forward(meaning it is all the way up). However it will not move back. From what I can tell the motor runs a threaded rod inside the seat tracks on both sides of the seat. Hope that will help you somehow ,but if you get it figured out let me know the what the problem was my guess it the switch.

Default Volvo 960/S90 Power Seat Repair...

POWER SEAT MOVEMENT: It is very common for the seats to bind with one side moving and the other not. The problem is that one of the cable ends have backed out of the seat transmission and no longer turns the transmission gear that moves the seat. What I have done in the past is try to get the seat to center it's current movement, then I reach under the seat and push in on the cables ends on the side that doesn't move until you find the bad cable, the entire seat will move forward and back. Once I find the bad cable, I get some duct tape or something simular and tape the cable in a possition that will keep pressure on it so it works. This temp Jerry Rig can work for years. A better fix may be to get a small butane cigarette lighter torch and heat the end of the cable while pushing in on it. Then hold the cable in until it sets, dries, or whatever it will do. This fix has show to work well with 850 power seat cable problems.

The Volvo 700 and 900 series are two ranges of mid-size car manufactured by Volvo Cars in the 1980s and 1990s. The 700 series was introduced in 1982, followed in 1990 by the 900 series. The 700, designed by Jan Wilsgaard, was originally to have been a replacement for the 200 series, but production of that model continued.
The most visible differences between the 700 and the 900 series were the more rounded corners on the body of the latter, and a somewhat better-appointed interior. The 960 was substantially revised for the 1995 model year, improving the handling. The range was first augmented and finally supplanted by the Volvo 850 in 1993, with the last of the 900s being sold in 1998. Some 900 series were built as chassis for ambulances and hearses after the main production run had been completed.
