Default Is this quote right.

I had my 2000 S40 in for a tune up and was told I have cam seal leaks that will probably get oil on the time chain and cause it to fail. They say I need 1) replace timing belt, 2) replace front and rear cam seals, 3) replace front crank seals, 4) replace exhaust cam hub, and 5) replace ect sensor and thermostat. I have no oil on the garage floor and am wondering if they're just trying to stick it to me. What do you think?

Not uncommon. Go there and ask to see the leaks. Don't call ahead, that gives them time to put oil on the belt if they actually are scamming.

This is a common problem with the 1.9T engines. I found a receipt in my car from the prior owner who had the work done at the dealer for $800. Money well spent because it has to be done right. Plenty of posts on the procedure if you want to know whats involved. This is not a job you want to shop around for. Get someone who knows what they are doing.

ppap, I would have done it right away if they only wanted $800. They want $1800.

I would not worry about it until you see oil on your garage floor. When the CVVT hub leaks it really pours out. If that happens don't delay repairs.
