Default Radio issues

I have a 2001 Volvo S40 that I bought in March of this year from a dealer. It was preowned but the manual came with it. Anyway, the head lights had to be replaced and when that happened the power source was disconnected, leaving the message CODE. I looked frantically for the code everywhere but I could not find it. So I called the dealership on the phone and asked them if I could give them the VIN number for it and they could give me the code. They said they could not do it unless they ripped it out and saw the code on the radio. My mechanic called and asked and they still would not give it to him.

Is there anyway that I can get the code without having to pay money or get the radio physically ripped out?

The sticky's in this General Volvo Chat section has a link called:
https://volvoforums.com/forum/genera...-owners-52250/

In that link there is a note called:
RADIO: The security feature of my radio needs the security code, where can I find it? This applies to most factory radios installed in the 90's. SC-700's & SC-800's:
Cannot start radio after putting in new battery

Call a different dealer. They may request you fax them a registration. Now, if the radio was replaced they will need the sn off the radio. If that is the case they usually do not give that code to anyone other than a dealer.
