Smile Radio went out for a while

Good evening, yesterday I was driving home from work and after making a short stop at a bank teller I got back in the car and my radio did not come on once I started the engine.
I got home and looked for the fuse box to see if I have blown the radio fuse somehow.
I was a bit frustrated I did found the fuse box but it got too late to work on it so I decided to drive the car in to the garage, when I turned on the engine the radio started working again just fine.
This is what I think happened and I wonder if it is true, driving home the other day it was extremely hot and my (original) battery is about 5 years old after my stop, the engine compartment was very hot and so was the battery thus the old battery did not performed well to keep up with the auxiliaries so the radio went first. After the battery cooled down it was charging again but I will have to replace it.
Two question is my theory correct and what kind of battery you guys think would be the best without going to the dealer and spend $135?

Thanks so much for your help

I dont think your theory is correct. The reason I say this because if your battery would be so low that the radio wont be turning on your engine would not have start either. It must be a loose wiring or a fuse maybe the on/off **** too.

It may be your sound system. Mine ('05 V50 w/premium sound) does something similar. The CD works fine. However, if I have the radio ON when I shut the car off, leave the car for a few minutes, restart the car, the radio plays until I press one of the presets. Then the radio freezes, no audio. If I turn it OFF then turn it ON it remains frozen for about a minute then comes on and works fine.

The Volvo Service is stumped. They reloaded/upgraded software for the ICM, and then replaced the ICM. Still has the same problem. I am trying to convince them to try replacing the AFM as its only the radio that has a problem.

Thanks for your reply, the radio is working fine for now but it has also been kind of cool and rainy around here, I'll see again on a hot day in couple of weeks.
I'll keep you guys posted though.
