Real life Fuel consumption for T5 and T5 AWD
Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a new or used S40/V50 either in T5 or T5 AWD trim. I live in the Great White North, i.e. Canada, and I have never had an AWD car, but I think that sometimes it would be nice to have it. I was looking on the volvo website for the fuel consumption for the T5 and the T5 AWD and I am wondering if the AWD is worth the extra mileage.
I thought that one way to find out was to ask T5 or T5 AWD owners what their mileage is with what kind of driving conditions. I have used the search function, but couldn't find much information, unless I am not really looking at the right place. If that's the case, please feel free to redirect me as I am really new to the forums.
Thanks a lot in advance for the help.

RE: Real life Fuel consumption for T5 and T5 AWD
I have a T5 AWD and live here in SoCal... I must say though I bought the AWD for traction (canyon runs, tracking, etc) and I love the car this car handles. With a nice set is tires (wider then original) its sticks hard. I do mostly city driving and average around 20MPG BUT I do DRIVE my car... I am no old man with the pedal and rip through the gears and give the 6 Speed manual a work out.
I would highly recommand this car for you, I bet those who live in the snow can attest to the performance of this car...

I own a 2005 S40 T5 AWD which my wife mostly drives. I performed the 60000 mile servicing today in my garage. My wife consistently gets about 28.5 MPG combined as shown by the mileage computer. When I drive it the mileage drops a mile or two. We have never gotten below 26 MPG combined. The AWD is great on snow and ice since my dirt driveway usually stays fairly icy during this time of year.

I have a 2007 V50 and a 2008 S40, both T5 FWD. Here in SE MA we get relatively little snow, so I opted for the FWD cars, which get me about 31 highway and 27 mixed highway/city, appreciably better than the AWD models. If I lived in northern NE, I probably would have gotten the AWD, however.

I have a 2005 S40 T5 AWD I'm getting around 26-27mpg 50/50 highway/city and I drive Hard (Drive it like you stole It! lol). Here inCentral New York we get lots of snow and the AWD is fantastic. I would defiantly recommend this car I love mine!

I bought my 2005 fully loaded S40 T5 AWD 6spd manual last May with 58,000km on it and have about 88000km on it now. Only problem I had with it is the Xenon headlight burning out which got replaced under warranty. I get about 12km/L on long trips and 10.5-11.5km/L for around town trips. This mileage is when I don't give the engine a good workout which is addictive. The car handles excellently in snow and poor conditions and is a smooth pleasant ride.
