S40, Assorted Service Questions
Hi Gang,
First Off, Merry Christmas!
I just picked up a MY2K S40 1.9T.
Its coming up on 90k and I want to do all the stuff I have done to all the VW/Audi cars I have owned for 12 years. I plan to flush all the fluids, replace the timing belt and pump and just do all the small filters, etc.
Even though Audis have the "Sealed for Life" transmission, you can drop the pan and replace the filter and top it off with their (OUCH) $24/Liter fluid.
From what I read here, the Volvo has a similar setup.
The dealership sells 4 liters for $70, I figure I need 8. However, they told me, and the manual also says that the car uses Dexron II/III fluid.
Has anyone tried this in their car? I would use the Mobile 1 synthetic fluid.
Does the Dexron work? I will go out and pull the dipstick and look at the color, but is there an additive I need to know about?
The VAG cars all use a special fluid and while some have put M1 SAFT in their cars w/o issue, I used the factory fluid.
I assume there are a lot of cars people have put Dexron fluid in as that is what the manual says.
The service manager a the local shop says they use dexron, but didn't want to say yay or nay to off the shelf fluids.
Any ideas on this before I destroy a transmission?
Thanks,
Mark
