S40 Broken Timing Belt (posted in August 2010)
So my A/C belt broke and some how managed to wrap itself onto the Timing Belt and pully and broke my Timing belt. I installed a new belt and ligned up my marks correctly and started it up. My car now sounds like its out of timing sputters and just sounds crappy. I turned it off and re-checked my timing marks to make sure everything was still ligned up and it is. Im afraid i now have valve damage. My question is this job a difficult job or should i turn it over to a Volvo Specialist and sink in lots of $$$
is there anything special or different then other cars for this repair??
What should i look for? What should i ask the Mechanic?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Your Correct
Zachy,
unfortunately for me you are correct. My car is in the shop. After the Mechanic pulled the head i had him call me so i could get a visual on the bent valves and sure enough they were bent.
Now i know not to let my A/C belt go without being changed.
Ive read on some other posts where the magnets go bad on the A/C compressors and over heat and release the clutches and your
A/C kicks off.
is this accurate?

I think that is possible. The windings break, go open, and the clutch will not engage. The connections are easily testable. Just use an Ohm meter and test the continuity. It should be about 2 to 5 ohms. Any more and it will need to be replaced. If the resistance is okay you can have a problem with the clutch. The spacing could be too wide. That is easily tested. with the coil energized just push against it. if it sticks to the pulley, just re-space it.
