Default S40 ECU Upgrade - Does it work???

Anyone have any experience doing an ECU upgrade on an S40?
I'd really like to hear from anyone who's tried one. Funny that the 2000-2004 models can't use an external programmer
like the others. Most claim 40HP from just a re-program. Find that hard to believe.

upsolute does some good work...you can get around 20-30 hp with it..i highly advise you make sure you have all your mods done before you have it chipped though, after a new turbo or exhaust you need the ecu updated anyway...

i have a 2005 VOLVO S40 2.4i.

although all i've done to mine was put 2006 s60R rims, s60R rotors and calipers, K&N AIR FILTER, aftermarket HID head lights, a german plate, car wash every weekend, and fresh mobile 1 synthetic oil every 2,000 miles... i never done the ECU flash...

although, a friend of mine has the same exact car... he had the ECU flashed. he claims he has 40 more HP! he said all this costs about $100 bucks at the local volvo dealership.

he says all they do you is reprogram the gas pedal and the way the sensors respond to it.

for example, if you press the gas half way down... you can go 0-60 in 8 seconds.... but when they flash it... it goes 0-60 in 5 seconds. this may be a good or bad example. but when i was told how this works, it makes a lot of sense.

although, my friends all have new cars. such as the mazda speed6, ((i call it the mazda slow6)), honda accord, nissan altima 3.5, and so forth.... all of them flashed their cars... and all have check engine lights on because it was simple to flash their chips, but they decided to get it flashed before they put on exhuasts, intakes, different spark plugs, etc... the flash is the last thing you do.

this is why i havent flashed mine.

BUT!!!! THIS IS REALLY WHY NOT!!!

I AM LOOKING FOR A COLD AIR INTAKE OR A SHORT RAM. I LOOKED EVERYWHERE. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY OTHER CAR IN THE WORLD HAS A COLD AIR INTAKE ((((EVEN THE VOLVO S40 2.5 T5)))) EXCEPT FOR THE 2.4i !!!

IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN FIND A COLD AIR INTAKE OR A SHORT RAM INTAKE. PLEASE DO TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET IT.

i was looking at my engine the other day, and realized the volvo s40 2.4i stock intake, takes up half of the room in the engine space!!! and maybe thats why they are slower than meant to be. also, maybe volvo decided to make them this big so it can be quieter and more fuel efficient... but thats not good when honda civic are faster... lol... just kidding.

I have never heard of this happening. Please provide examples of this happening.

if your getting a ecu upgrade you go to a place like upsolute not the dealership...there's no questions whether they work or not, cause they do...you don't buy any crap off of ebay and you dont listen to someone who said it cost them 100 bucks to flash their ecu..do your homework and do it the right way and you won't have any problems...

The power gains are attainable; fuel economy is usually the same or better.

I tune for Upsolute.

Did you even read this before you posted it.
1. Don't need to know when you wash your car, or have a German plate.
2. The whole capitalized intake paragraph, this thread has nothing to do with it, and just get a K&N unless you are running an open ECU program like chrome.
3.Don't thread jack.
4. Try to sound intelligent, don't use all caps.
5. It's pathetic if you lost to a civic, i beat civic si's before i did anything to my 1.9.

Also, Volvo made their intakes the way they are to run best with the car, otherwise they would have designed else way, and i ran an open cone filter for a while and i lost power, even with a heat shield.

Viva got some more cold air intakes in stock now but I still wouldn't recommend it. There's a computer in the stock air box that has a risk of over heating if removed.

You have a 2.4i just keep it clean don't try and squeeze horses out of an engine that all ready maximized for what it is.
