S40 hard to start
Hello everyone. I have a 2002 S40. Just replaced the idle air control valve.
Runs great now. However you must pump the gas to start. It will die a few times and you must rev the rpms to get going. Once it starts it runs
great. Any ideas on what is going on? Thanks in advance for the help.

Fuel pressure regulator is bad. Do a search for threads on long cranking times.
The FPR is the black plastic thing in and below the red circle. The circle is specifically around the fuel line connection. One 10mm bolt holds the FPR to the fuel injector rail. There is also a vacuum connection which comes with a new FPR. They are a bit expensive these days.

It's $122 from eEuroparts.com. In the above picture it's the silver part that slides up into that black plastic housing. Very simple to change out. You need to pull the metal clip that is just above the silver part in the picture to release it from the housing. Put a rag underneath to catch the fuel and don't do this when the engine is hot.
