Default S40 is here to stay!

So after some debate as to if I should dump the S40 for something with a better known reliability track record with less miles (I've got 140k on this 2004) and a few test drives of cars I was interested in replacing it with, an Accord Hybrid and a Acura TSX Sedan I decided to keep it. Even more-so when I realized that I'd only get 4500 for it with those miles. Quite a shocker!

So I dropped her off at the Volvo dealer and they did a 30k mi service on it, new brakes all around, new tires, new antenna (gotta watch out for those car washes!), a new drivers side rear view mirror, new headlight wiper blades and a detail. I'm happy to say I'm going to keep it.

It has never broken down in the 140k that it's been around and no major repairs have been required. It drives great and I'm thinking of having it repainted in Black, or repainting the front and rear of the car. For an automatic this thing has some real get up and go on the freeway and my only complaint is wind noise, something both the Accord Hybrid I drove and the TSX had much less of. Let's hope my kind treatment to the S40 means she'll treat me the same way back cause I just invested my down payment into her and I expect it to last me awhile! ($2,000)

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I should look out for at this mileage I'd much appreciate it, though from what I've heard, the motor in the 00-04 S40 is rather solid.

Did you replace the timing belt at 100K miles?

The belt was done at 93,063 miles.

The transfluid was probably done at the 60k service and again at this last service I just had done.

I do my Hondas every 30k, but this Volvo doesn't seem to be so sensitive to new fluid as the Hondas you can tell right away that the fluid made a difference. Seeing as this car is 75% of the time at 70-90 mph the trans doesn't do too much work so I hope it lasts awhile.

Are there any known issues with them? - What's the actual recommended amount of miles for a trans service? I usually just bring it into the dealer when the SER-VICE light comes on, my dad drove it before me and he did the same.

Also, Volvo is sending me my High Mileage Club badge!

Do they still send grill ornaments? - The guy on the phone called it a decal?

Apparently they did away with the badges a few years ago, and switched to a decal. [sm=smiley21.gif]

You can also self-enroll in the HMC at
