Default s40 key fob doesnt work

So i got a new set of keys from the dealer they programmed it but the buttons actually wont work, the cars starts but thats about it, they said they didn't have time to check it so they told me to bring it back to run a diagnostic but i bet thats gonna cost a a few just to find out what it is then some more to fix the problem. the key i had before at least opened the trunk but that one doesn't work now. Any idea what the issue could be ??

I had same troubles but they were able to tell that the remote worked but car was not receiving signal, there was a blue wire dangling in my footwell and it went behind instrument panel into module to program the remote.

The ignition receives a signal from the transponder chip and that is what starts your car, within same remote is a circuit board that sends a signal as well, if both are sending signals I see no reason why dealership can not program it.

On mine it had been in an accident from previous owner and had dash replaced, the auto shop failed to plug harness into module for alarm. When I somewhat removed instrument panel for speedometer, I did not have to fully remove it, I was able to tilt it at an angle and I could see that the plug was not in place. Also there is a small hole about four inches from module where a clip on the harness plugs in, that will stop it from falling down into footwell like mine did.
