Definitely no leak before and a major leak immediately after (as in a big puddle on the driveway). The car is old and not worth much but in good condition apart from the leak, which is a bit unfortunate as I will now have to scrap it.

How exactly is the system repaired? I always pictured in my mind replacing parts. But if they use compressed air to clear a clog then it could definitely blow out a seal elsewhere.

New oil trap and hoses. I was told - after the leak started - that the blocked oil trap was responsible for shot rings and seals, but I can't claim to understand why the major leak started immediately after the oil trap was replaced. Anyway, I'm done throwing good money after bad. I would have scrapped the car before spending a lot of money had I know this would happen, but there's no point crying over spilled milk.

Hudini, yes, they replace a part. I have seen it called a PCV, oil trap, or oil filter container. It's like a oil filter container / PCV combo. I will attach a photo. Not sure about the compressed air thing....

Thank you for that picture. While I've yet to tackle this I know it's in my future.

Default PCV Hose

Does anyone know if you need to disconnect the PCV hose at the top of the engine to replace the oil pan on the undercarriage of the vehicle?

Good to know. This car has had a couple of issues that have surprised me. 3 years ago the CV joints went, with only 45k on the car and last year the angle gear went with 65k. Volvo NA, picked up substantial portions of the tab on both which speaks volumes for their customer service.
I can handle above average wrench turning, as I drive a 2004 Land Rover, and with the help of buddy I do the work on it.
As you work for a dealership, is the VIDA that I see for sale on eBay worth buying?

Thanks again for your advice! Got it in. Took 30 as my wrenching skills are not up to your level.
on a separate question, I noticed that the torsion bar running across the top of the engine seems to have a lot of play. I can wiggle the bar pretty aggressively. Is that normal?

I think you replied to the wrong thread. The eBay VIDA and DiCE are fine if you can get them to work, which I've heard can be hard.

The play in the upper brace is likely normal.

I experienced the leaky PCV box on my daughters 2010 last year. R/R the box and then still leaked. Was going nutts trying to figure out the problem and then realized when pulling the oil cap I had negative pressure (Blowing oil out) normally pulling the cap you should develop vacuum (Suction). Compression ck/ Leakdown showed a Blown Head Gasket. Guess the PCV box being the weakest link (Plastic) leaked giving symptoms of a bad box.
