I have a volvo s40 1998 2.0 t, i can hear a slight grinding noise when i start the car from cold, from the engine (maybe where the turbo is at the back of the engine) thats what i think anyway, ive had the exhausts and the cat checked and they are fine, theres no smoke coming from the car, and when its warmed up the noise is gone, turbo pressure is ok but could be better, do i need a new turbo? and is there anyway of checking without going to a garage or even the dreaded main dealer thanks for your help

 

I would check the bearings for the Accessories and the timing belt.
