How much should I ask for my car?
I have a 2005 volvo s40 non turbo. Odometer is at 70xxx. It is a manual transmission, power everything, sun/moon roof, 6 cd changer. Maybe 10,000 miles on the tires and a lot of padding on the brakes. I had to leave on deployment a few years ago and now there is sun damage to the exterior of my car.ie. paint coming off, water spots, window shields peeling. A/c only works for 10-15 mins. I had to take off the interior liner on the ceiling because it started drooping. The sides on the door liner is saggy. I want to sell my car and most of the defects are cosmetic and it is still a low mile car but I don't want to get low balled. What would you pay for something like this?

Reshim the a/c compressor and you can get a bit more for the car.

I'd search Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds to see what they are listing for similar. I paid $9000 about 3 years ago for a 2005 T5 AWD model.

Honestly, with all the issues you list, it will be very tough getting a buyer that wants to keep the car for themselves. According to Edmunds, in "clean" condition, meaning no significant cosmetic or mechanical issues, the private party price for central Ohio is ~$5300. That drops to ~$3500 when you change the condition to "rough", which if you read their description fits how you are describing the car. That $1800 drop is probably less than it would cost to correct all those issues, maybe even a paint job alone, so I wouldn't be surprised if you had trouble getting the $3500, but that is JMO. Might be a place to start though.

When I look to purchase a car, I get the www.NADAGuides.com value, then deduct the retail cost of any needed repairs and overdue maintenance. Only seems fair to me.

Thank you for your responses. I am trying to go in this with no surprises and what people who buy volvos would pay for. I'll look into fixing a lot of minor problems and also try the AC shimming
