Question Shift **** replacement? (s40 1998)

Hello. I've got a 1998 S40 T4 manual. Looking to change the shift **** but can't find any info on how to remove the old one. Anyone know? Thanks

I would recommend going to a dealer.

Because there are differences between markets. Am I correct that the 1998 S40 manual transmissions were NOT sold in America?

Anyways there are more than a few aftermarket ***** available.

Some of these pre 2004 just come off by pulling. The repair manual indicates, and this is Volvos quote: "considerable force may be required." This is also the same verbiage used for most automatic *****. And I can attest that pulling off the **** on a 2002 XC70 automatic is a violent and difficult pull, much more than anyone first expects, but those are the automatics.

Many , notice that I say "Many" post 2004 shift ***** just twist counterclockwise or was it clockwise? And lift off. Look at the parts diagrams on any Volvo internet site, the post has a clear pin sticking out of it.

Did the new **** come with instructions? Can you post a picture of the innards of the new ****? I know of a few that purchased the wrong **** and destroyed it because it was a twist type.

Please post your results, I can't find the procedure for the manual transmissions in 1998 in vida.

I do know when Volvo says considerable force, they mean a 180lb male, no fat, that goes to the gym every day and can generally bench press 350 lbs and it will take this person 2 hands and their full effort. It is a violent pull. Which is why I emphasize making sure you have the correct procedure.

Some Volvos have a plastic ball at the base of the shift lever, big black plastic ball, sitting in a nylon white cage as compared with the solid steel levers and cross thingigy. if you have the wrong **** reinstalling incorrectly will break the ball style shift mechanism. This is my concern. I know of NO special tools required for any **** replacement.
Some of the shift skirts have hidden inside clips that you squeeze from the outside and the clip and skirt then slip easily out from underneath the inside bottom part of the ****.

Some ***** have a plastic clip similar to those push in type clips on some fuel lines, it is a gentle push and then the **** easily pops off, not much effort required. Knowing which type is critical.

Not much help, sorry,.....
