Stalling and fresh air hose repair
My friend has the exact same S40 that I do with almost the same mileage: 121K ('03 S40). This past week he got in the car, turned the key, the car started, and after a few seconds the car stalled. The only way he could keep the car running was to press down on the gas pedal to keepthe engine RPM's up. He took the car to our local Volvo dealer and it took them over a day to figure out what had gone wrong. I have the repair statement with me so I will type exactly what their analysis was: "Customer states that the car will not stay running install new fresh air hose with resistor and heater / clear codes and test drive car." "Diagnosis of repair: The diagnostics and fault tracing of this repair involved volvo equipment and volvo trained technicians. This ensures the proper diagnosis and repair. Verified concern / found multiple codes stored in vehicle / during fault tracing. Found fuse 18 blown in engine compartment fuse box / traced fuse circuit to find electrical fault in crankcase breather element hose assembly." This repair cost just under $500. It sounds like they only had to replace a hose. I'm wondering which hose is this? A breather hose on the engine with a resistor and heater? The repair states the part cost $101.15. What hose could cost over $100? I'm now concerned my car is going to need this part (I'm at 138K miles).
It is somewhat common on the S40.
The hose that was replaced was teh one from the Mass flow to the turbo.
I will bet the part # is 30863690 or 30644343 unless the Part # had been updated from them.
