Hello. I have a 2004 S40 (New body model). I received the "Steering wheel Locked. Try again" message when I try and start the car. It is definitely the SCL (steering column lock). I was able to start the car after banging on the SCL with a hammer. However, I want to remove the SCL and clean the pin so that this wont happen again. I have managed to get the 2 bolts out of the SCL but I cannot get the SCL to release from the column. Every video I have seen of this fix, once the bolts are out the SCL just comes right out. Is there something different with the 2004 S40 SCL and how to remove it??
Worked great. I had to jiggle the unit and put the key in/out a few times before the I could get the tab to depress but was able to get it free eventually.
Same problem here. 2004 Volvo V50. I managed to remove the sheared-head screws by cutting a slot in their heads and thought that was the hard part done. But, the lock is still held in place by something. I presume it is the small piece of metal that requires a hole punch as depicted in the VIDA diagram. But I have been hitting it as hard as I dare with a punch and it will not move. As a result I cannot get the lock out. I'd be grateful for any ideas as I'm in a bit of a fix.
