Default Stuck in park

Hello, my name is adrian and i am new to this forum. I have a 2009 s40 that i love so far. It has 70k miles and no problems thus far until now. I went out to start my car yesterday and i got absolutely nothing. When i stick the key in the ignition all my lights come on in the annunciator, but i get no engine crank, not even a sign that my starter is rotating. The battery checked above 12 volts, and the other tricky thing is that my car is stuck in park, it will not allow me to take it into neutral. If someone could give me some info i would highly appreciate it. Look forward to hearing from yall.

Adrian

Battery or neutral starting switch? use the shift lock button to release the shifter, roll through all the gears, P to Low 5 or 6 times, return to park and try again. The neutral start switch has gone bad, it doesn't know you are in park or N and will not turn over.

The ignition switch itself is also a suspect. Mine would usually crank if you tried turning the key several times.

I had this happen to me once last year. Of course it was my wife driving at the time so she took this as ammo to suggest that it was time to replace the car...I also resorted to trying to wiggle the key repeatedly. It finally worked but I am sure that I would have busted the switchblade key doing this. As it was I use the rigid spare key to get the job done.

We are in sub zero temperatures,my husband just remembered that water was spilled in console. So he now has my hair dryer on high and the heat turned up to try and melt whatever is blocking the tube
