My daughter bought a 2010 5 cylinder Na and I've always noticed a slight erratic idle or shudder to it. It drives just fine but wondered if this is normal for a Volvo 5. It just doesn't seem smooth as other 4 cylinders. Is it a design issue or do you think there is a problem? Should it be really smooth? I'm totally new to the Volvo world. Thanks

 

how many miles on the car? The 5 cyl engines are well balanced so they should be smooth - so I'm inclined to think you may want to check a few things - plugs, coil packs (particularly if the car is getting up around 80-100K miles), air filter, inspect the MAF and throttle body for cleanliness, look for possible cracked vacuum lines or air leaks around the intake manifold (ie spray with cleaner to see if it gets sucked in). Also does it sound like there may be an exhaust leak??
