Taking to dealer...tech, your help appreciated
I am taking my 2000 S40 into the dealer next week to have a few things looked at. I just wanted to post them on here first to see if anyone therecould offer answers, etc. Also I would like to know what to ask the people at the dealer to look at for the below "problems" and an approximet cost please. Thanks!
1. VIBRATION!! Car vibrates a lot during the first 5 minutes of driving after that you can really only feel it through the steering wheel. Any suggestions besides motor mounts?
2. Transmission! Car seems to have a "lurch" to it when shifting. Could be normal or not? Maybe the fluid or filter needs changing? Any ideas?
3. Cycling!!!!! This is the most important thing I think. Once or twice, when I am at a stoplight, the car will surge rythmically until I let off the brake and go on my way. It is rather violent. I also noticed today that when I put the car in park it seemed to rev higher for afew secondsand then slow down?
4. Starting hard! once and a while after leaving the car for 24 hours without driving, when I try to start it it cranks for a good 3-5 seconds before starting. Very rarely it will also crank once and nothing and then I have to switch the car off and try again and it starts normally.

1. Is the vibration only when under acceleration?
2.Maybe software or fluid
3.Check engine light on? Maybe idle motor dirty
4.Maybe the fuel pressure regulator is bad.

Vibrates under accel and at idle. could be motor mounts havent had them checked eitherany other suggestions

I see, any other ideas on what may be causing the cycling at stoplights. I think that worries me the most.
I just want to give the dealer a multitude of things to check because it is a long trip out there and I want to get my money's worth.
And also, any idea on how much the above will cost approximately?

The surging might be as simple as a dirty idle motor or throttle body.
Not to sure on cost I don't deal with the cost to much I just fix them.

Well when I bought the car we had it checked out at the dealer andthey told me I had a cracked throttle cable that had to be replaced. They did that so I would think they would have cleaned the throttle body at that time. The idle motor I have never had looked at.
Whats the worst case?

Usually cleaning will fix it but it might also be bad. Also there is a hose for the idle motor that goes to the intercooler that might be cracked.
Got back from a drive on Labor day, car wouldn't lock with fob. Got into car to lock from th inside and the power locks didn't work. Car wouldnt start either. I went nuts!!! opened hood and the moron dealership I bought it from had not tightened the neg clamp down and now it was completely off. Put it back on and now it runs like a dream, starting problems solved!!! Also had to then find the radio code.
Dealer says:
1. Transmission-fine, all normal
2. Vibration-upper engine mount has a little give to it, needs replacing in the next few months-$270 parts and labor estimate
3. Surging-all systems fine
4. Starting-see above
I was probably just being paranoid about my first car!
