Can anyone tell me what this hose is and if it's hard to change... it it plastic and it is cracked

 

Wow, you still have the plastic hose. The replacement is rubber. It is a crank case vent hose that goes from the Oil Filter Housing to the top of the engine head cover.

 

Thanks for the information. After much research the general consensus is that I should replace the hose and the oil filter housing. The best price I can find in the hose is $50cdn and about $220cdn for the genuine volvo filter housing. Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket brands?

my dealer quoted me $680cdn to change both with lifetime parts and labour warranty.. I gave it a day and they came back with $544 which seems reasonable givin the amount of work involved.

but if the aftermarket brands are good and i can do the work myself that's an option as well.. but the lifetime parts and labor warranty is seeming like a good option.. any thoughts??

 

Why replace the whole housing when all you need is a rubber hose?

 

The plastic hose was pretty gunked up and all the Volvo forums reccomend the new style housing and hose..
