I have a 2005 S40. Water is gathering on the floor but it appears to be coming up from the floor. Just on the drivers side, front and back. There are no water marks anywhere else in the cabin.

Are there drains of any sort from sunroof or windshield wiper areas that may be plugged?

It happens after heavy rains.

 

You got it, plugged drains from the sunroof. There are two drains running under the A pillars to an elbow that takes the water outside the cabin. Those elbows are subject to clogging especially if you park under trees where external stuff gets washed down the tubes. Those elbows have an X pattern opening in the plastic that needs to be removed so it does not happen in the future. Do a search here for clogged sunroof drains. I remember seeing a picture in another thread showing what I'm describing.

 

I've had to clear mine out a number of times. Takes about 10 mins once you've done it before. First (assuming you have a sun roof), open the roof and look at front corners of channel; you'll see a drain hole on each side. Pour a little water in the channel at the hole. Look to see if the water drains out behind the front wheel on that side. If not, the line is clogged. Main thing here is that you really need an air compressor to clear the line.

Step 1: Pull off weather stripping on door at top (just pull). Step 2: pull front roof pillar trim off. Step 3: Look for the clear tubing that runs along the pillar down to the front corner of the windshield. It terminates in another tube which is black. Pull the clear tube out of the black one. Step 4: crank up your compressor (I have a fitting I assembled specifically for this task), insert fitting into the black tube and once you have enough pressure (100 PSI +/-) open the air line to blow it clear. Step 5: Reassemble in reverse. Step 6: Pour water down the drain hole at the sun roof again; it should run out behind the front wheel easily.

 

Thanks for the info. I finally feel like I am on the right track.

I found the tube. However, by the time I got the trim off, it looks like maybe the clear tube wasn't seated in the black tube (down at the dash).

That would certainly explain why water was running amok, but now my issue is that there doesn't seem to be enough slack to get the clear tube into the black one. Is there supposed to be a connector of some sort, or does the the tube just feed directly into the black one? If that is the case, how deep into the black tube does the clear tube go? From what I have here the clear tube would only go in approx 5mm and the black tube is so flexible I having a bugger of a time getting the clear tube into it.

Any thoughts?

 

There is not a lot of leeway with the clear tube and no fitting. Gently stretch any slack out of the clear line and try to pull the black line up a bit. The clear tube should fit about 1.5 cm+/- into the black one. Just make sure to blow them both clear while you have the whole thing apart because more than likely the water on the floor is due to a clog and not the lines pulling apart (or both).

As a general comment, I think this is a pretty poor design. The black tube should extend up farther and the connection made in an easier-to-access location given that it's prone to clogging.
