Howdy,
Looking at buying at '01 S40, turbo 1.9 for teenagers to drive to school. What kind of mileage are you all getting in city driving? Does everybody use Premium fuel, and does it affect mileage one way or the other?

I gave my 16 yr old daughter my 2001. It gets 34 mpg highway and less in the city. She only uses regular gas. Premium is nice if you want maximum performance but regular works just fine. The ecm will pull some timing if it senses knock so you lose some power at times but otherwise it runs just fine.

 

I'm getting about 24mpg combined city and highway. Keep in mind that I live in a very hilly area, so much of my commute is going up and down hills.

 

Wife gets 22-23 in her 05, she uses premium but has heavy rims and some crazy subs in it. She drives all city also.
