Hi - My left break light died so i went to the shop and bought two bulbs. i come home and take of the rear fabric panel and remove the unit all the lightbolbs are connect to. ( 3 "white" bulbs and one orange )
But there is no break light bulb.. The slot that should contain the break light ( According to were its places ) doesnt have anywhere to slot the bulb in.. I noticed there was a small wire connected to the rear of the lightbolb holder going towards the break light location - so iam thinking they might be LEDS?
90% of the bolbs are normal bulbs, but only the breaklight is LED - doesnt really make any sense..
Does anyone know? How i can get it changed?
Thanks alot.
google "Volvo 30763495" for a picture of your tail light bulb carrier - you should see 5 bulb sockets in the carrier - one of which is the brake light. If you suspect somebody installed an LED replacement (?) you can go back to stock as the part is not that expensive and most ship in a kit with the bulbs. (30 to 60 USD). usually the bulb numbers are also listed in the owners manual and I'm sure somebody has posted a vid on Youtube for how to access and change the bulbs.
Like mt6127 said, if you have LED brake lamps, it's a good chance that it will show up as a bad light bulb to the car's computer (since they draw so little current). Swapping them back to "normal lamps" will fix the problem.
If you have a spot without a lamp socket, chances are it's the slot for the rear "fog lamp" - Volvos have ONE rear fog lamp, always on the driver's side. But since they sell cars that are configured as right- and left-drive, they build the rear lamp holders to fit both, but don't put in the socket or the wiring for the "wrong side" rear fog light bulb. This confuses nearly everyone who bothers to ever hit that fog light switch and wonders why it doesn't seem to do anything. ;-)
Thanks for the reply - i went to the mechanic today and he agreed that only the top part of the light housing where the break light sits is infact a bunch of LEDS that are connected to the origianal bulbholder through a cabel( he could be full of **** ofc..). The left is very dimb ( I guess thats why iam not getting the warning you have mentioned) and the right is acting strange - his suggestion was the find new ones ( Or used ) remembering to find the LED version and replace both parts. the cable conected to the back of the bulb holder seems to go up and into where the breaklights are - but there is no hole for a bulbe like there is for all the other bulbs..
But you guys are saying if its LED. its aftermarked - the previous owner a 57 year old women original owner.. i doubt she was hanging with the hood boys and installing aftermarket LED break light
I am even more confused now.
Thank you for taking the time and replying - greatly appreciated.
edit: i just found a photo of the rear lights - dunno if it makes a difference.

so the way your car is designed is the wiring plugs into the bulb carrier for each circuit (ie marker, brake, back up). if you unplug you can test to see if you are getting voltage to the carrier. If you are getting voltage to the carrier then its either the bulbs, the LEDs or the carrier itself. if the LEDs are part of your model's design, they it sounds like you need to replace the bulb carrier.
