Default 02 volvo s60 AWD, humming and hard turning

I have a 2002 volvo s60 AWD. It seems like i'm getting a humming noise from the trans that increases as you speed up. Any ideas what it is and how much to fix?? Also hard turning when pulling into parking spots feels like the front wheels are binding at slow speeds, any ideas?? is this normal i've only had the car 2 weeks. I'm thinking should try to sell it before it costs a small fortune to fix. The car has 77,000 miles. thanks darren

I would say the humming is caused by the wheel bearings, not the transmission. If that is the case the part is about $130/ea for the front ones and $190/ea for the rear ones.

Welcome to the forum. I like the car.

Thanks. I took the car to a repair shop wednesday they replaced the wheel bearings and said they drove it down to a trans shop and said you need to take it to the dealer. They said it could be coming from the trans or differential they are connected...

Default Tran Issue

Being AWD, do all 4 tires have the same tread pattern? Do you know if the tread depths are within 2/32 of each other.

The reason I say this is that Volvos have a hydraulic controlled AWD system that become problematic in the differentials if the tread patterns are not the same, and the car is driven on those tires for an extended period of time.

I know this is not much info but from experience in my shop, I have seen it happen more than once.

Default Tires??

I am experiencing the same problem with my 02 s60. Like a 4wd truck on dry pavement. I have heard that about the tires as well. So if a tire is low on air im going to have an awd problem?? Hard to believe this wasn't factored in by the engineers that designed this system. Wouldnt the same hold true if you made several turns in the same direction?? Hate to go to the dealer for this so if anyone has any thoughts it would be appreciated.
Thanks
