Default 05 S60 T5 w. 160k miles Valve Body Repair?

Hello,
My 2005 S60 w. 160k miles has hard down shifts when hot. Tranny fluid has been changed, Volvo guy says the software update is unlikely to help - he says the valve body is the issue. What would be the appropoximate cost of that? Not going to Volvo but looking for an independent garage.

Thanks

not sure which transmission you have but you can search "volvo transmission valve body" and find a rebuilt part goes for $150-175. Most shops will quote book labor for you - my guess is it'll be 4-5 hours so figure $500 plus parts and materials. Assume they let you provide the rebuilt part, I'd think you're looking at 750-1000 for the job.

Will I need a software update after this?
Thanks!

I'm not really sure but what you can do is read up on how to do a driving cycle to retrain the computer following valve body work. I'd also call an independent transmission shop to ask them about the process they'd recommend (assuming you'll be sending to a shop to do the work).

Will definitely have it done by a shop - if I can find one that installs a remanufactured part.
So far I wasn't lucky. An independent Volvo guy told me that a "SwedeMasters" shop in town does the reprograming for $200.

Update: Found a shop that would replace the valve body with one that I provide.
Now the question is how to identify the transmission. Should be a Aisin AW55/50, but how do I make sure?
Then the exact part number. I see several refurbished ones on Ebay that say
"Interchange Part Number AW55-50SN, AW55-51SN, RE5F22A"
The numbers on the images on Ebay however show
T10 9168
9210272
How to identify the correct part?

Thanks!
