Default '05 S60R Steering Pump Replacement...

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a 2005 S60R, 6 MT that needs the power steering pump replaced. The warranty on the car is voided so I have to pay for this myself. Dealer wants $550 for the part alone plus labor to replace it. I can buy the pump online for $440 and then install it myself. If I'm mechanically inclined and have a good reference manual (haynes, chilton, etc) would this doable? Any advice would be much appreciated....! Thanks.

I've never done one but IMO should be quitestraightforward to do. If I remember right, the pump is at the top of the engine. Take the belt off, remove the hoses, R&R the pump, reinstall belt and hoses. Use the right CHF-11S fluid. FCPGroton has one of the best prices I have seen.

What happened to your pump that you need to replace it?

The main quiestion is why is the Warranty Voided?
But it is pretty easy to replace.
And yes what happened to the old one?

The warranty is void because I'm an idiot...a dealer discovered that I was running the BSR ECU tune and reported it....I forgot to reflash the ECU back to stock prior to normal scheduled maintenance....and as it so happened, one the tasks that they were doing was to apply some software update.

As for the Power Steering Pump itself, I have an oil leak and the dealer diagnosed it back to the PS Pump....and that's why they suggest replacing it. I agree with you, it does look easy since it's on top of the motor.......do you think any special tools will be required?

thanks,

Special tools depend. Does the new one come with the pulley on it already?
I would clean it up good and make sure the hoses going to it are tight. The factory clamps are known to not stay tight and cause leaks.

That sucks about the Warranty have you tried another dealer?
