2001 s60 2.4t - engine/trans swap with non turbo engine.
so my highly erratic and challenged turbo s60 **** on me a month or so ago after me trying to fight and troubleshoot numerous coded in the engine and then eventually and the real kiler... the transmission. overall the real knife in the back after the trans started to go was i believe overboosting maybe due to software? anyway.. on a hot day suddenly after booth the car changed drastically. suddenly it started to run real hard and knock and my power dropped substantially and even my gearing. (limp mode?) the car has been sitting since then because its got a knock code as well as cvvt solenoid, evaporative emissions, and a few others. i gave up for awhile. well i recently found an immaculately maintained donor that got hit in the driver side door causing the side curtain airbags to go off but other than the door the rest of the car is in really really good shape with full service records. only difference between the two is that mine is turbo and this one is not.
so before I embark on a deep and intense journey of swapping engines and trans and whatever else is in better shape i had a few questions on some possible things that I might run in to or hopefully I can avoid if possible. the main thing i want to not have to do is go to volvo for any kind of software updates because **** that. those greedy bastards. will i need any kind of software updates in the swap if i do a straight swap and say **** the turbo. is it possible or even worth trying to use the turbo components from my engine on the non turbo engine? are any internals of the non turbo engine different like beefier pistons or such. I also would imagine that if i go down this road a vida/dice diagnostic would be good to get... but is it necessary? well its been a lot to think about and i don't have all the time in the world going through tons of pages of info thats not what i need. any info anyone can give me would be extremely helpful.

the engine management systems for turbos vs non-turbos are completely different, transmissions are not. If you swap a turbo for a non-turbo, you will need to also swap out the wiring harness, ECU etc.
