Hello. Just joined the forum. I searched many post and could not find the same problem that I am having. I have a 2001 s60 (non turbo). I recently had the oxygen sensor replaced and two times I put reg gas in it and it starting making a knocking noise. Brought it to my mechanic and he replaced a coil. Started using higher gas and it was fine for months. I went to a full serve and forgot to tell the guy for premium gas. He put in reg and knocking came back. So back to mechanic and got another 2 coils. Drove to Logan airport (50 miles) to drop off friend. Put car in park while dropping off friend. When I got back in car it said service engine soon and was in limp mode. Drove back home in limp mode and let it sit over night. Drove to mechinac next day (20 mi) and it drove fine. When I got to dest the message service engine urgent went away. My mechanic was able to have the same thing happen but he doesn't know what it is. It seems like if the needle for engine temp goes anywhere after or just about half way on the half way mark,it goes into limp mode. It's not overheating though. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Mechanic suggest I bring it to dealer but they always charge me so much for things that I didn't even bring it there for.

 

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Did the mechanic pull any codes? If he did, do you happen to know what they are? This will be the best way to point you in the right direction.

 

Thank you for your reply. He was not able to but I held done the milage reset stick and got code 078 and 058. 058 had always been on but 078 is a new one. Did some research on line and got conflicting info on what code 078 is.
