Default 2002 base model--where is that purge valve?

I found one in the junkyard in 2 seconds, but I can't find the location on my 2002 NA base model, looking on driver side down under the airbox but I don't see it, it it elsewhere or hidden of something?

You went to a junkyard to buy a $10 purge valve for a 17 year old car????

Yes exactly and to make matters worse the one that I got doesn't fit. But they just gave it to me along with the gas cap so no big loss. I think I'm going to check that j-shaped hose that goes to the charcoal canister before I spring 30 bucks for the purge valve I hate to just troubleshoot by throwing money at a problem

Well, it is closer to $30 than I anticipated. That small hose typically rots out and can cause the problem. What code did you get?

mine has two skinny hoses going to it. I replaced the vac hoses going to the valve as they were a mess, then i reset the code but it takes a while to return, it's the 45 code I believe for "gross leak". I replaced the gas cap with a junkyard find.

Is it a better method to fix then see if the light goes off or fix and reset the code and see if it returns? Wish I had one of those smoke machines.
