2002 S60: Replacing manual seat with power?
I've written about my 2001 V70 in the past but, alas, that car is headed for the great beyond. The head gasket went for the second time and I just don't want to mess with getting another engine installed.
My mechanic was selling a 2002 S60 for another customer and the price seemed good and he's been doing all the work on it so I bought it.
Oddly, the passenger seat is manual, not power. So I begin thinking that I could pull the passenger seat out of my V70 and pop it into place. After all, the connections for the heat and airbags are already in place, all I'd have to do is pull some power.
So I start reading. First bit of good news that I come across is that all the connections are already there for connecting a power seat. At least that's what is claimed on the internet.
Then I start reading about the seats needing a software upgrade. WTF? You have the switch on the seat and the motors in the seat, why not control the motors directly?
From what I'm reading, the seats use the CANbus. The switch says, "Move the seat" to the computer and the computer says, "Move" to the seat. Overly convoluted but that's what we have.
So the question for the day is, "If I swap the seat out, would a local dealer update the software and what would a rough cost be?"
