2002 Volvo s60 Transmission Problems!!
I bought a 2002 Volvo s60 with 142,000 miles. I took it to the mechanic because it has no reverse, the mechanic says he will need to rebuild the whole transmission. He gave me a price of 2300, for the transmission + new struts. I have the 2.4t edition. He has had the car over 8 weeks. Is this too long for a volvo? I am getting impatient but im not sure if this is usual for volvo transmissions to take this long or not. HELP!

Hey man, sorry to hear that your car has been down that long. I took my car to have the transmission replaced and got it back in a week or less. Now I once took a car to a body shop and told the guy i didn't need it back for a while so take you time (he was doing $4,500 worth of work for $2,200). That was a mistake, not because of the time he took (about 10 weeks), but somewhere along the way he thought I didn't care how clean it was when I did pick it up, it was a mess.
Most tranny jobs or any major repair on any car should not take longer than 2 weeks, that includes major body repairs (unless you are warned prior). Most shops will tell you how long they will have your car, especially if they are backlogged.
I would contact them and ask how much longer it will take. When they tell you, stress to them how important it is that they meet that date because you need your car. The sad thing about it is that they often take the car apart and you're stuck because it's near impossible to get another mechanic to get involved in another mechanics mess.
Hope you get it worked out soon.
