We have a 2003 S60 with a very bad fuel smell. We bought it used in 2006 from a Volvo dealer in Cary, NC. Of course, when I called Volvo and gave them the VIN #, they said that we were not covered under a recall or extended warranty. Plus, our Certified Pre Owned status expired in Feb. of this year. Does anybody have a suggestion for this? I really don't want to spend $700+ to get something fixed that has been a recurring problem for Volvo

 

Keep calling, keep complaining, it worked for me. My one friend fixed it himself with jbweld underwater putty, and it has yet to have failed in two years.

 

If this was a recall, they need to fix it no matter who owns the car. I have a recall for my fuel tank that I need to take car of and I think I am the forth owner now.

 

fcpgroton- what year is your car? I called Volvo and because it is an 03, there is no recall or extended warranty.

 

Update: The fuel pump was the problem for the fuel smell. Volvo called yesterday and said they would cover it even though there is no warranty on the car. I was very happy with the service I received. Thank you for all that replied to my earlier posts.

Last year (2008) I received a letter from Volvo of america that if you notice a fuel odor it may caused by fule pump and they will fix it for free. I noticed fule odor today (sep.2009) I go to volvo of richardson (in TX) and i shown the letter to them and they fixed it for free! In letter they said if you paid for this serviece before call 866-637-3774 and ask for refund! Should anyone have to see this letter i can send the scanned version of this letter.

 

My car also has a bad gas smell, 2003 S60, with 105K miles on it ... brought it to Galpin Volvo in Van Nuys California, they said it is covered by my warranty
