I bought with intermittent power steering. Had leaks in the pump and hoses. After replacing the pump everything was fine, but after 2 days, the problem returned. Fluid is dark brown with red tinge. I will have the lines replaced next Friday and will ask for the system flush. They want to drop the subframe for hoses, and that's 80% of the rack replacement labor. Is there any way to test the steering rack to determine if that needs to be replaced? What are the symptoms of bad steering rack? Of course, the other possibility is that the NEW remanned power steering pump is bad, but that's very unlikely. .

 

Change the fluid first, then test functionality prior to hose replacement
