2006 S60 whine before engine start

Default 2006 S60 whine before engine start
My s60 has developed a problem with a whining noise when I turn the key to the position just before I start the car. The noise remains when the engine is started. It sounds like it is coming from the driver side of the engine compartment. Has anyone had this issue before? If so what was the problem?

Are you 100% sure the noise is coming from the engine bay? I only ask because a failing fuel pump will often emit a whining sound, but the fuel pump is generally on the right side of the chassis.

Vac pump Listen under the hood if it is coming from the air box area then check you vac lines for a leak.
